Week 40/41 - October 3rd : Meaning and Forgiveness

Hi everyone,

I won't be writing a blog next week because university work is ramping up quite a lot and I have some assignments coming up. I recently asked someone for their thoughts on my blogs, and I heard a valuable insight that they read as open letters. I would argue it as true, and I like it that way. However, at some point I will start talking more or less exclusively about work and things I've learned.

I was listening to this Diary of a CEO podcast with Matthew McConaughey and I really thought about the impact of someones character has on their likeability. McConaughey is also an incredibly hard working and great actor. In Midas Touch, I talked about the transferability of traits across different discipline in your life, McConaughey is a great example of this in practice. In the segment below in the video attached, I've highlighted an area where McConaughey speaks about self-reliance and belief, and forgiveness for sins. One aspect that spoke to me was about the genuine willingness to forgive yourself for your sins as well as asking for it. This is all great but then you go and repeat your sins and ask for forgiveness again. Are you really sorry for your shortcomings? What are you going to do about it? You have to hold yourself accountable even though you can keep asking for forgiveness, and it may be granted to you.

There's a great one-liner in this that self-reliance and belief go hand-in-hand. Many people believe that faith "is whatever happens". No, you must put your hands on the wheel and exercise the free-will given to you in the trust that things will work out for the better.

Greg
