Hi all,
I fell quite ill this week. Thankful that I'm not fully floored and I'm able to keep on keeping on.
Naturally enough I've been very busy so I'm tipping away at masters material and I was talking to someone yesterday and I must admit I am just on the borderline of the pre-requisites for the masters. Going to have to bust my a## for the next 12 weeks. I'm aiming for a 1:1.
Anyway, the title of the blog : Midas Touch - where does it come from? We had some new starts at work and had to do some ice breakers, and one of the questions was "If you had a superpower, what would it be?". I was actually stumped because I had never really thought of one, without finding a fault in it. No superpower is flawless and that's what makes the films so great to watch. However, one super power I felt was in my reach was the Midas Touch. The Midas Touch obviously has its flaws and it sounds unbelievably pretentious, depending on how you look at it. I see it as the positive - "having an exceptional, natural ability to turn any venture, project, or business into a financial success"
I felt that the Midas touch translates across everything in your life. Do your best, make great products, do honest work, serve your community and inner circle to enable them to live their best life. The work you do in study will translate to what you do in your house chores, to what you do in your day to day work life. If you skip over that last 10% when cleaning the floors at home, you might not do that last 10% of research that gives you that A in your assignment or it might mean when you go to present that project in work it gets shot down because you didn't find that 10% that tapped into what the management was looking for. Same as for the gym and fitness. You have to give it your all, you won't become better for it otherwise. On top of all of that, every piece of work you do has YOUR name on it. YOU need to make sure that the work is done 100%, or it'll be known that you settle for less.
After time, giving it all 100% all of the time, with nothing left to give, the lever of success will start to pull in your direction, then all of a sudden everyone will say "Greg has the Midas touch, whatever he does he seems to always do well".
This doesn't come without failure, we have all faced failure. It is important that when you get knocked down, that you fall on your back, because if you can look up, you can get up.
Anyway, thats all for this week
Greg
